Caught a dozen rainbows(between 3 of us) at Fio yesterday. Camped out and fishing started slow today(just playing with it and spitting it out). Added some extra weight to the old Zebco 33 and cast my LAST piece of power bait(rainbow with a mealworm on the tip) far as it would go. Caught a 21 inch 4lb brown trout. She was a beauty. Felt bad as this was my first time ever trout fishing and many locals at the lake told me they'd never caught a brown and they'd been fishing the state for years. Great time for me and the kids but forgot the mosquito repellant...paying for that right now!

How much can weight fluctuate on a trout. I didn't weigh mine but guessed 3 1/2 pounds. I then saw a picture of a 22 inch brown that was listed as 4 1/2 lbs.....so I measured mine at 21 inches and raised my weight guess to be 4 lbs...thinking if a 22 inch is 4 1/2 then a 21 incher must be 4 lbs at least.

I then started reading reports on washingtonlakes.com and people were claiming to have caught brown trout 22 inches long that weighed over 9 lbs!

Is that possible...can you have two 21 inch browns and one of them weigh 4 lbs while the other weighs 9 lbs???

I yhink some folks are guilty of wishful thinking...

wishful thinking??? It's called being a fisherman laugh

Actually, to be honest, some fish just get real fat like footballs, while some fish get real long and slender. Just start looking at pictures of big trout and you'll see what im saying.

For easy reference, compare a 16" triploid to a 16" resident rainbow out of a local river.... you'll see what i mean.
